Free AI Video Editors: 10 Options, Exports & Limits (2026)
A free AI video editor is useful when its no-cost workflow produces the file you need. Start with the required edit and download, then compare AI access, source allowance, branding, resolution and expiry. A credit balance or a free preview alone does not answer that question.
This comparison covers ten products with different free-access models. Facts were checked against vendor sources on September 5, 2026 (UTC). Valmera publishes this guide and sells paid Studio editing; its free utilities are described separately. The list is not a measured performance ranking.
Start with the free result you need
For AI assembly of supplied media with a clean 1080p download, inspect Clipchamp. For a short captioning task, consider Adobe Express. Canva and CapCut can fit designed or social edits when the selected assets and features meet the Free conditions.
If a watermark or lower-resolution test is acceptable, free transcript, clipping and broader AI workflows can also be useful. Check the ten offers below before treating a free account as a recurring production plan. Valmera Studio requires paid access for indexing and agent editing.
A free plan can contain several different limits
| OFFER | WHAT IT GIVES YOU | WHAT STILL NEEDS CHECKING |
|---|---|---|
| Ongoing Free account | Continued access to included features | AI access, source processing and the downloaded file |
| Recurring credits | A meter that renews on a defined schedule | What consumes it, whether unused units carry over and which operations are included |
| One-time allocation | A finite amount to try a workflow | Whether it ever refills without payment |
| Time-limited trial | Access until a stated expiry | Card requirements, renewal, downloads and project retention afterward |
| Free account or upload only | Access to the product or storage | Whether editing and final delivery require payment |
A credit is not a universal unit. One service may count source minutes, another generated seconds, and another a particular operation. Record the meter attached to the feature you use. A free manual operation, AI-assisted cut and prompt-to-generated scene can have different costs inside one account.
Compare what each Free offer can deliver
These are dated public observations, not a promise that every account sees the same promotion. A limit on a feature is not necessarily a limit on the entire editor. Details and source links follow the table.
| PRODUCT | FREE ACCESS | OUTPUT | RESET OR EXPIRY |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Clipchamp | Personal Free includes basic editing; Microsoft explicitly documents free auto composition. | Up to 1080p; no Clipchamp watermark with included features/assets. | Ongoing free personal tier; premium selections can prevent export. |
| Adobe Express | Free editor and a separately documented free caption generator. | MP4 video; Adobe publishes watermark-free delivery. | Free access; premium assets and other AI features have their own allowances. |
| Canva | Free video editing with plan-dependent AI and design features. | No watermark on Free when all elements and media are free; MP4/GIF listed. | An ongoing free plan; selected paid elements change the download conditions. |
| CapCut | Free core access exists; web, mobile, desktop and feature entitlements differ. | Clean exports can be possible; inspect templates, branded elements and export settings. | Check the exact platform and account; a Pro promotion is not the core free plan. |
| Descript | The checked Free table lists 60 media minutes per month. | 720p; the current comparison excludes watermark-free video export on Free. | Media allowance is monthly; AI access and export rules are separate. |
| Kapwing | The checked Free offer lists 10 credits and watermarked exports. | 720p; four-minute exports; comparison table lists 30 monthly export minutes. | Table lists three-day Free storage; do not assume every credit pool renews monthly. |
| VEED | Basic editor entry with feature-dependent free AI access. | Free and signed-out video exports have a VEED watermark. | Check each AI allowance and export setting in the active workspace. |
| OpusClip | 60 credits per month; automatic clips, reframing and captions. | Up to 1080p with a watermark; Free has no editing. | Clips are no longer exportable after three days. |
| Riverside | Unlimited single-track recording/editing; two one-off multitrack hours. | Up to 720p with Riverside branding on Free. | The separate-track allowance is one-time, not a monthly refill. |
| InVideo AI | Current help describes limited free credits without card details. | Check the selected video workflow; clean paid exports are advertised separately. | Free quota resets Monday at 00:00 UTC; exact current balance is account-visible. |
Ten options and the decision each requires
Microsoft Clipchamp
Consider for: Editing owned footage with AI composition or captions.
Auto composition selects and assembles supplied media and allows a move into the timeline for changes. Autocaptions provide an editable transcript and an SRT download. Review the actual selection, names and timing rather than treating the generated edit as accepted.
A Microsoft account and a supported desktop browser are needed. Clipchamp can process video editing locally, but autocaptions send audio to Azure Cognitive Services. Check that distinction when no media upload is a requirement.

Adobe Express
Consider for: Adding captions and editing designed scenes.
For a narrow AI task, the free caption generator has a clear path: upload, generate and correct captions, then download the video or continue editing. The broader editor adds templates, scenes, text and music.
The Caption Video quick action has a 1 GB, five-minute input limit. That limit belongs to this action, not every Adobe video workflow. Use a supported source and inspect the completed download; a free caption tool does not establish unlimited free generation.

Canva
Consider for: Video alongside graphics, slides and social designs.
Canva provides a layered timeline and automatic captions, with AI-assisted selection and sequencing also described on its video page. It is a candidate when the video is part of a design workflow and you want to continue refining the result manually.
Inspect the assets and feature access in the actual Free account. A paid image, music track or graphic can change the watermark condition. Do not assume that every feature shown on the product page has the same free allowance.

CapCut
Consider for: Manual social edits and selected AI assists.
CapCut has a dedicated online editor as well as separate mobile and desktop products. It is a candidate for assembling your own clips with effects and templates. Confirm the specific AI operation you need before counting it as a free feature.
CapCut documents template outros and branded elements that can remain in the result. Check all layers and the ending, along with the selected feature requirements. A free download example from another device does not prove your project has the same conditions.

Descript
Consider for: Trying transcript-led editing and AI assistance.
Descript organizes spoken media around editable text and offers its Underlord co-editor and other AI tools with plan-dependent access. Use Free to investigate the editing workflow and the corrections your source needs.
Do not budget around the old claim of one clean free export each month: the current table does not support it. Enough source minutes do not imply permission to download a clean 1080p video, and an AI feature may have its own credit limit.
Kapwing
Consider for: Trying shared editing, captions and the Kai assistant.
Kapwing combines conversational assistance with a browser timeline and collaboration. A short project can help determine whether captions, comments and revisions suit your work.
The Free card says unlimited exports, but the table caps monthly exported duration. Check the account’s meter and retention before committing a project.

VEED
Consider for: Trying a browser timeline, captions and text editing.
VEED combines timeline operations, text editing and captioning with broader AI creation tools. Its free entry lets you investigate parts of that workflow; a visible feature menu is not a promise of unlimited use.
The watermark help page explicitly ties clean exports to a paid subscription. If unbranded output is mandatory, do not invest the whole project before resolving that requirement. Confirm resolution and feature limits in the selected account.

OpusClip
Consider for: Generating short candidates from a long recording.
OpusClip can produce candidates for a long-to-short workflow. Treat clip selection and scores as proposals, then review context, cut boundaries, captions and framing.
A recurring credit balance does not provide the missing Free revision controls. If the proposed clip needs changes, include another supported editing step or paid access. Download any usable candidate within the actual export window.
Riverside
Consider for: Recording a conversation before editing it.
Riverside connects recording, editing and clip creation. It is relevant when producing the source recording is part of the job. Free access can help you inspect that complete process.
Keep single-track recording, separate-track download allowance, AI access and final-video quality as different requirements. A two-hour trial allocation does not create a recurring two-hour monthly production entitlement.
InVideo AI
Consider for: Exploring creation from prompts and generated media.
The current free-access article includes access to AI models and image generation, and describes using an image for video creation. The older promise of ten free AI minutes with no generative access should not be carried forward.
Model and setting choices affect credit consumption. The current public pricing page does not expose a complete numeric Free card, so this guide does not invent one. The downgrade help page also warns that editing a formerly paid video on Free requires payment for a clean download.

Worked example: eight captioned videos every month
Suppose the requirement is eight vertical videos, each 45 seconds, from eight six-minute recordings. Each final must be 1080p, captioned and free of editor branding. You expect one correction and a second export per video. This is a hypothetical production brief; no editor was run against it.
| QUANTITY | CALCULATION | WHY IT MATTERS |
|---|---|---|
| Finished footage | 8 × 45 seconds = 360 seconds, or 6 minutes | This is the accepted output, not necessarily the billable AI work |
| Source footage | 8 × 6 minutes = 48 minutes | A transcription/source-processing allowance may count this instead |
| Export attempts | 8 × 2 = 16 exports; 12 minutes if each attempt is a full 45 seconds | Revisions can consume more work than the accepted six minutes |
Clipchamp meets the published 1080p/no-editor-watermark conditions when included assets and features are used; the caption quality and actual workflow still need testing. Kapwing’s cited 30 monthly export minutes exceed the hypothetical 12 exported minutes, but Free 720p and branding fail the required delivery. Descript’s cited 60 source minutes exceed 48, but its Free export conditions also fail that brief.
OpusClip’s 1080p figure alone is insufficient: the Free watermark and lack of editing matter. Adobe’s five-minute Caption Video input cap also means the six-minute raw recording does not fit that specific quick action. A workflow that first makes the short cut and then captions it is a different sequence to evaluate.

Now add the costs a number cannot decide: spelling corrections, unusable cuts, time spent checking footage, and whether the project can be revised next week. If branding becomes acceptable or the required resolution changes, repeat the comparison with that revised brief. Do not assume the same shortlist fits both requirements.
Reset dates and download windows can decide the workflow
Record the actual next reset and how usage is counted. InVideo’s Free help page specifies Monday at 00:00 UTC; that weekly schedule is different from a monthly allowance. Riverside’s two multitrack hours are one-off. Kapwing’s 10-credit Free offer should not be assumed to renew every month simply because its export-duration limit is monthly.
Also record the date by which you need the file. OpusClip says Free clips stop being exportable after three days, and Kapwing’s table lists three-day Free storage. An ongoing account can therefore contain work with a much shorter download or storage window. Keep the originals and download usable output within the stated period.
A trial is a separate offer
Pictory advertises a 14-day trial with three video projects. That can be useful for examining its workflow, but it is not a recurring allocation of three projects every fortnight. Confirm the download entitlement, expiry and any payment condition before starting. Pictory’s current offer.
Treat a temporary premium badge or an introductory credit balance the same way: identify what remains available after expiry. Current Valmera shopfront checkouts have no trial; free signup does not start a free AI edit.
Valmera’s three free local utilities
These tools perform specific operations without an account, payment or media upload. They are not AI agent editing and do not unlock Studio processing.
- Freeze frame: add a 0.3–10 second hold and optional text, or extract a PNG. Video export supports input clips up to two minutes and a 1920-pixel long edge; PNG extraction supports up to 4096 pixels.
- Color grading: apply six looks and four adjustments. Local video export supports input clips up to two minutes and a 1920-pixel long edge.
- Subtitle timing: offset or stretch an existing SRT/VTT file and download the result. It does not generate a transcript or edit the video.
The video utilities depend on browser recording support and disclose their format/audio constraints. Their output adds no Valmera watermark or end card. Test the actual download on the intended device. For browser, storage and device comparisons, see the online-editor guide.
Where paid Valmera Studio fits
If the budget permits a subscription, Valmera lets you upload footage, describe supported edits, inspect a timeline and preview, and request corrections in the same project. Account creation and uploads are free; indexing and agent editing require paid access. Creator starts at $15/month with 1,000 monthly credits. See current plans.
Final MP4 creation happens in Studio. The standard Valmera paid-plan policy omits overlay watermarks, but service settings can override it. Inspect the actual final file for branding and any end card. The final uses original media and is re-encoded; it is not guaranteed to preserve identical pixels. Studio does not import or export SRT/VTT and has no team seats. Check the delivery details.
This is a paid option for a different budget, not one of the ten free offers. Several competing products also combine AI assistance and manual controls. A useful comparison is whether the actual edit, revision and final file meet the brief at an acceptable total cost.
How to test a free AI editor through the final download
- 1Write the free deliverable requirementRecord the exact duration, resolution, aspect ratio, branding rule, caption or subtitle format and deadline. Decide which AI operation you need and which manual steps are acceptable.
- 2Read the offer and its reset ruleCheck the actual account, any payment-card or trial condition, the credit meter, source-processing allowance and export limits. Distinguish a recurring pool from a one-time allocation.
- 3Try one representative editUse a short source with your usual speech, names, movement and format. Run the required AI operation, make a correction and note the actual usage change. Keep an untouched source copy.
- 4Export and inspect the real fileDownload with the required settings before expanding the project. Inspect captions, joins, speech, framing, branding and the ending. Confirm a required subtitle file separately.
- 5Check the repeat workflowAccount for another revision and export, remaining quota, renewal date and project expiry. Save the editable work and usable files within the applicable windows. Choose based on the observed deliverable, not access to the editor alone.
This is a proposed procedure for your own footage. No product test or fixed completion time is implied.
How the comparison was made
We compared primary product, plan and support pages for the stated free access and deliverable. The ten entries cover different workflows: editing existing footage, captions, clips, remote recording and creation from a prompt. Product-page features were not automatically treated as unlimited Free entitlements.
The article includes no numerical product ratings or shared-footage performance results. Its monthly brief is arithmetic, and the first-export procedure remains for the reader to carry out. Conflicting or incomplete vendor offers are identified instead of filling missing details with old prices or allowances. Valmera has a commercial interest in its paid editor and uses no affiliate links here. See the editorial policy.
