An agentic video editor takes a goal in plain English, plans the edit, runs the editing tools itself, checks the result and revises when you ask. The best one depends on where you start. For footage you already shot, look at Valmera, Vyra, Descript Underlord, Riverside Co-Creator and Loopdesk. To mix footage with AI-generated shots, Cardboard, ChatCut and invideo. To turn long videos into clips or automate pipelines, Vizard, Reap and Mosaic.
Valmera is the footage-first pick for handing over the whole edit. Upload a recording, describe the cut, and its agent trims dead air, adds word-timed captions, reframes, adds b-roll and music, checks a rendered preview and exports a full-quality MP4. Valmera
Best for: Handing off a complete edit of footage you already have
Upload a recording and Valmera indexes it: word-level transcript with speaker labels, shots, silences and on-screen text. Describe the edit and the agent cuts dead air, filler and retakes, adds word-timed captions, reframes to 9:16, adds b-roll, music and sound effects, or splits a long video into shorts. It renders a preview, checks its own frames and audio and fixes problems before reporting back. Over MCP, Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor get the same 143 tools (live server card, October 2026), including export_final for the finished MP4.
Good to know: It doesn’t generate footage, burns captions in (no SRT/VTT files) and has no team seats or direct social publishing yet.
Vyra
Best for: Chat editing on a full timeline, driven by built-in AI or your own
Vyra’s pitch is “Raw footage in. Finished video out.” It analyzes uploaded clips and edits by chat on a full timeline with split, slip and ripple tools. Highlights: word-timed caption styles, cuts synced to the beat, motion graphics generated as code, and matching a reference video’s pacing and color. Use the built-in Vyra AI or connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor over MCP; Vyra sells separate plans for each.
Good to know: MCP edits apply live while the project is open in a browser tab. Export goes up to 1440p or 4K depending on plan. Like Valmera, it doesn’t generate footage.
Descript (Underlord)
Best for: Transcript-first editing with an agent built in
Descript calls Underlord “your all-in-one video agent.” It reads your script, watches the video, suggests edits and takes feedback, makes bulk changes such as giving every speaker a lower third, and can turn docs or slides into video. Transcript editing, scenes and AI actions like Studio Sound stay one click away, and Descript’s API and MCP let Claude trigger imports and Underlord edits.
Good to know: The free plan includes limited Underlord use; paid plans add full access. The API publishes a share page with a download link but doesn’t export media files directly yet.
Riverside (Co-Creator)
Best for: Podcasts and interviews you also record in Riverside
Co-Creator is the chat agent inside Riverside’s editor. Ask it to cut filler and pauses, enhance audio, fix eye gaze, make platform-ready clips or write show notes. It sits next to Riverside’s separate-track recording, text-based editor and Magic Clips, and Riverside MCP lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor edit, clip and schedule posts.
Good to know: Riverside MCP is included on Grow plans and above. It works best when Riverside is also where you record.
Loopdesk
Best for: An AI first cut across a library of creator footage
Loopdesk’s agent, Aura, scans your footage and suggests a first cut (speaker detection and camera switching, silence and filler removal, captions), then takes plain-English follow-ups like “make the intro punchier.” A content library across connected storage and a distribution calendar round it out.
Good to know: Its site lists no MCP or API access, so the work happens inside Loopdesk’s own editor.
Cardboard
Best for: Agentic editing plus generation, in the browser or on a Mac
Cardboard builds an editable first cut from a prompt, your footage or both; you refine it by chatting with its Director agent or on the timeline. It generates video, images, music and sound effects, clones voices, finds web b-roll and matches reference videos. Share links collect team comments, and exports include MP4 and NLE projects such as DaVinci Resolve. Its Mac app (September 28, 2026) edits local footage and lets your own Claude or Codex agent drive.
Good to know: Runs in Chrome or on Apple Silicon Macs, not phones or tablets. Generation and 4K export depend on plan.
Palmier Pro
Best for: A local Mac editor that Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can drive
Palmier Pro is a Swift-native macOS editor modeled on Premiere Pro and built for agents. While it’s open, a local MCP server lets Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any Streamable HTTP client read the timeline, search footage by what’s on screen or said, edit, render frames to check the result and export. You can also chat with its in-app agent or bring your own Claude Code or Codex. It generates images, video and music on the timeline, syncs multicam shoots into a rough cut, and exports H.264, H.265, ProRes or HDR files up to 4K, plus XML for Premiere Pro and FCPXML for Resolve and Final Cut Pro.
Good to know: It needs macOS 26 on Apple Silicon, and agents can reach it only while the app is open. Generation and the built-in agent use Palmier credits. XML handoffs drop text overlays and Palmier’s color and effects. Releases after v0.7.6 are closed source.
ChatCut
Best for: Chat editing with built-in video models and NLE handoff
ChatCut pairs an AI panel with a multitrack timeline and transcript editing, and generates shots (Seedance, Kling, MiniMax), images, motion graphics, music, voiceovers and avatars in the same project. It runs on the web and on macOS and Windows, and exports MP4 or WebM, SRT subtitles, Premiere or Resolve XML and CapCut drafts. Its Agent Plugin lets the Claude Code, Codex and WorkBuddy desktop apps edit a project.
Good to know: The plugin installs in those desktop apps, not on Claude’s or ChatGPT’s websites. XML handoffs can drop captions, text and effects.
invideo
Best for: An AI agent on a full multitrack editor, with generation and teams
invideo calls itself “the agentic video editor for serious creatives.” Its agent logs every clip so you can find a moment by describing it, applies one instruction across many shots and works on a multitrack timeline you can take over at any frame. It adds storyboarding, custom agents, multiplayer editing and generative models. Its MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor, and you can export a video or a Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or Resolve project.
Good to know: Plans are credit-based and built around generation; check which models yours covers.
Vizard (Vizard Agent)
Best for: Clips at volume, plus an agent for broader video jobs
Vizard’s core tool turns long videos into captioned, reframed clips, with text-based editing, caption translation in 100+ languages, brand templates, scheduling and an API. Vizard Agent, launched August 10, 2026, starts from an idea, footage, a document, a script or a website, then researches, writes, creates visuals and edits, using 22 templates from product ads to documentaries.
Good to know: No MCP server is listed. The free plan exports 720p, caps exports at 10 minutes and keeps projects for three days.
Reap
Best for: Clipping, dubbing and translation from prompts, API or MCP
Reap turns long videos, webinars and interviews into clips, animated captions, dubbed versions and translated subtitles. Its Clipping Agent takes prompts like “find every product mention,” and the same toolkit runs through the app, API, CLI and MCP, with a social scheduler for publishing.
Good to know: Merging several videos into one finished piece is in private beta.
Mosaic
Best for: Developers running repeatable video workflows
Mosaic positions itself as an agentic AI video editing platform. Its API defines an agent as a graph of processing steps called Tiles (captions, clips or full pipelines) that runs on video URLs and reports progress by webhook. Outputs include signed video URLs, thumbnails and Premiere timelines, and it can post to connected social accounts.
Good to know: Built for repeatable workflows run from code; for a single creative edit, a chat editor is quicker.

What makes a video editor agentic?
- It works from a goal (“cut this to 60 seconds for Reels”), not one command at a time.
- It runs several tools in sequence: cuts, captions, framing, audio.
- It checks its own output, as Valmera does with a rendered preview and Cardboard’s Director does with its timeline.
- It revises in context when you push back.

How to choose
- Footage or generation? If nothing on screen should be AI-generated, shortlist Valmera, Vyra, Descript, Riverside or Loopdesk. For shots you never filmed, Cardboard, ChatCut or invideo.
- Hands-off or hands-on? Valmera and Loopdesk lean toward a finished cut; Vyra, ChatCut, Cardboard and invideo put a full timeline next to the agent.
- Which AI drives it? Valmera and invideo are remote MCP servers, Vyra needs its browser tab open, ChatCut and Cardboard connect through desktop apps, and Riverside includes MCP on Grow plans.
- What comes after the edit? Premiere or Resolve handoff: invideo, ChatCut, Cardboard. SRT files: ChatCut. Scheduling: Riverside, Vizard, Reap.

Valmera’s limits
- It edits footage you provide; it doesn’t generate video from text.
- Captions are burned in. There’s no SRT/VTT import or export.
- No team seats or shared review yet, and no direct publishing to YouTube or TikTok.
- No custom font uploads, true crossfades or motion-tracked stickers; no audio denoise or AI music generation.
- English is the best-tested transcription language. Paid exports end with a brief Valmera end card.
