Valmera vs Vyra: two agentic editors for your real footage

Valmera and Vyra are both agentic editors for footage you already have: upload clips, describe the edit, and AI does the cutting. Neither generates footage. Choose Vyra if you want a hands-on timeline and the freedom to drive it with its built-in AI or your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Choose Valmera if you want to hand over the whole edit: its agent plans the cut, checks a rendered preview, fixes what it finds and exports a full-quality MP4, from Studio or any MCP client, with nothing left open in a browser tab.

Valmera publishes this comparison. Vyra details come from usevyra.com, checked October 6, 2026; see sources.

Pick Vyra for chat plus a full manual timeline, motion graphics generated as code, reference-style matching and beat-synced montages, especially if you already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.

Pick Valmera to delegate the edit end to end: long recordings up to 3 hours, word-level cleanup, captions, shorts, b-roll, repair tools and a self-checked preview, with export available over MCP.

The biggest difference: how your own AI connects

Both products let Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor do the editing through MCP, and both use Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1 and PKCE. The difference is where the work happens. Vyra’s agent edits the timeline live in your browser, so its own docs ask you to keep the project open in a tab. Valmera’s 143 tools (live server card, October 2026) run on its servers: your assistant can create a project, edit, render a preview and call export_final while Studio stays closed. Studio shows the assistant’s activity when you open it, and Valmera refuses simultaneous edits from Studio and MCP on the same project, so the two can’t overwrite each other.

One more nuance: with MCP, your assistant edits with Valmera’s tools directly. It can’t hand the job to Valmera’s in-house agent, which runs only in Studio. Vyra draws the same line by selling MCP plans and built-in AI plans separately. Setup guides: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor.

When Vyra is the better choice

  • You want to trim by hand as often as by chat, with slip, ripple and clone on a full timeline.
  • You already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor; Vyra’s FAQ says its MCP plans cost less than its built-in AI plans.
  • You edit multi-clip creator content (vlogs, trends, montages) and want cuts on the beat or a reference video’s pacing and color.
  • You want motion graphics generated as code, or WebM output.

When Valmera is the better choice

Run the same edit in Valmera

  1. Upload your recording in Studio, or connect your assistant to https://valmera.io/mcp/server.
  2. Describe the edit. The agent cuts, captions, reframes and adds media.
  3. It renders a preview, checks frames and audio, fixes problems and reports back.
  4. Revise by chat or on the timeline, then export a full-resolution MP4.

Prompts to paste (the first two work from Claude or ChatGPT over MCP):

List my Valmera projects, open the newest one, cut silences longer than half a second and every filler word, add captions, render a preview and tell me what changed.
Make three 9:16 shorts from this podcast, each under 50 seconds and opening on a clear hook. Export the strongest one with export_final.
Keep my last take of each line, remove the rest, and add a lower third with my name for the first four seconds.

Creating an account and uploading are free. Editing requires a subscription. See plans.

Valmera’s limits

  • No text-to-video generation. It edits footage you provide.
  • Captions are burned in; no SRT/VTT import or export.
  • No team seats, direct social publishing, custom font uploads, true crossfades, audio denoise or AI music generation yet.
  • English is the best-tested transcription language. Paid exports end with a brief Valmera end card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Neither wins across the board. Vyra suits creators who want chat plus a full manual timeline, driven by its built-in AI or their own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor. Valmera suits people who want to hand off the edit and get back a checked, full-quality MP4, from Studio or from an assistant over MCP.
Yes. Both run remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1 and PKCE: Valmera at https://valmera.io/mcp/server and Vyra at https://api.usevyra.com/mcp. Vyra applies changes live while the project is open in a browser tab; Valmera’s tools run on its servers, so nothing has to stay open.
Yes. In Valmera, call export_final, poll wait_for_job and fetch the MP4 with download_url. Vyra’s agent can export MP4 or WebM, up to 1440p or 4K depending on plan.
Not for Valmera: its editing agent is built into Studio, and MCP access is included with eligible subscriptions if you also want to use your own assistant. Vyra offers both routes: MCP plans for people who bring Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and Vyra AI plans with built-in AI.
No. Both edit what you upload. For generated shots, look at Cardboard, ChatCut or invideo.
Valmera accepts files up to 14 GB and 3 hours and turns one long recording into several shorts you can each revise by chat. Vyra’s showcase leans toward multi-clip creator edits such as vlogs and beat-synced montages.
