Valmera vs Palmier Pro: a hosted editing agent or a Mac editor your agent drives
Both let Claude or Codex edit real footage. Palmier Pro is a desktop editor for Apple Silicon Macs: your agent works on a local timeline through an MCP server on your Mac, with built-in generation and XML handoff to Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut. Valmera is a hosted editing agent: it runs in any browser, connects to web and desktop assistants through a remote MCP server and checks its own preview, then you export a full-quality MP4 in Studio or your assistant calls export_final.
Valmera publishes this comparison. Palmier Pro details come from palmier.io and its GitHub README, checked October 6, 2026; see sources.
Pick Palmier Pro if you edit on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26, want a Premiere-style timeline that Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can drive locally, want generated shots and music in the same project, or finish in Premiere Pro, Resolve or Final Cut.
Pick Valmera if you are on Windows, Linux or an older Mac, want ChatGPT or Claude on the web to do the edit, or want to hand over a long recording and get back a checked MP4 without keeping an app open.

The biggest difference: a local server or a remote one
Palmier Pro’s MCP server runs inside the app at http://127.0.0.1:19789/mcp. While Palmier is open, Claude Desktop (through an MCP bundle), Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another Streamable HTTP client on the same Mac can list projects, read and edit the timeline, render frames to review the result, generate media and export. Close the app and the tools disappear. Everything happens on your machine except generation, which calls cloud models.
Valmera’s server is remote at https://valmera.io/mcp/server, with OAuth sign-in, so the same 143 tools (live server card, October 2026) work from ChatGPT, Claude on the web or desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Codex on any operating system. Your assistant can open or create a project, edit, render a preview and call export_final while Studio stays closed. Claude Code can upload local files itself; with a web assistant, upload the recording in Studio first. Valmera refuses simultaneous edits from Studio and MCP on the same project, so the two can’t overwrite each other. Setup guides: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor.
When Palmier Pro is the better choice
- You edit on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 and want a full Premiere-style timeline you can take over at any point.
- You want to mix your footage with generated images, video and music in one project.
- You finish in another editor: Palmier exports XML for Premiere Pro and FCPXML for Resolve and Final Cut Pro, though text overlays and Palmier color and effects don’t carry over.
- You need ProRes or HDR masters, or a multicam shoot synced and rough-cut by the agent.
- You want your footage to stay on your computer while your agent edits it.
- You already pay for Claude, Codex or Cursor: Palmier’s pricing page says editing, and driving the timeline from those agents over MCP, are free.
When Valmera is the better choice
- You use Windows, Linux, ChromeOS or a Mac that can’t run macOS 26. Valmera only needs a browser.
- You want ChatGPT or Claude on the web to do the editing, or an assistant that keeps working without an app open.
- You want to hand off the edit and get back a finished MP4 the agent has already checked against a rendered preview.
- You edit long talking-head recordings: up to 14 GB and 3 hours, with filler words, retakes and dead air cut against a word-level transcript.
- You need several shorts from one video, b-roll, sound effects, voiceover or repairs such as blurring faces or regions.
Run the same edit in Valmera
- Upload your recording in Studio, or connect your assistant to
https://valmera.io/mcp/server. - Describe the edit. The agent cuts, captions, reframes and adds media.
- It renders a preview, checks frames and audio, fixes problems and reports back.
- Revise by chat or on the timeline, then export a full-resolution MP4.
Prompts to paste (the first two are written for an assistant connected over MCP; the third also works in Studio):
List my Valmera projects, open the newest one, cut silences longer than half a second and every filler word, add captions, render a preview and tell me what changed.Turn this 40-minute interview into three 9:16 shorts under 50 seconds, each opening on a clear hook. Export the strongest one with export_final.Keep my last take of each line, remove the rest, and add b-roll over the product explanation.Creating an account and uploading are free. Editing requires a subscription. See plans.
Valmera’s limits
- No text-to-video or image generation. It edits footage you provide.
- No XML, FCPXML or project export to other editors; the deliverable is an H.264 MP4.
- Captions are burned in; no SRT/VTT import or export.
- No team seats, direct social publishing, custom font uploads, true crossfades, audio denoise or AI music generation yet.
- English is the best-tested transcription language. Paid exports end with a brief Valmera end card.
