Most bad recommendations begin by treating every product with an AI label as interchangeable. They are not. The required human work, editable surface, output, and cost meter change by category.
AI-assisted manual editors
You remain the editor. AI handles bounded jobs such as transcription, silence detection, speech cleanup, reframing, masking, or caption generation while you make the sequence decisions on a timeline or canvas.

Transcript-based editors

How AI Video Editing Works, End to End
The visible interface may be a timeline, transcript, template, button, or chat. A typical editing workflow can be understood through the stages shown below in some form. This is an explanatory workflow, not a claim that every editor exposes the same index, tool set or verification system. A basic trim may not need speech analysis at all.

Worked Example: A 60-Second Product Explanation
This is a hypothetical editing plan, not a test result from Valmera or another editor. Imagine a two-minute source with a setup, an explanation, a repeated take, a demonstration, a qualification and a result. The brief asks for one minute that preserves the qualification. The four selected ranges below form the intended revised draft B.

The selected durations total 20 + 20 + 5 + 15 = 60 seconds. Assume unchanged playback speed, hard cuts and no overlaps, gaps, intro or outro. Those assumptions matter: a transition or a platform end card can change the final runtime. Repair a missing qualification
Suppose the first draft A omitted those five seconds and ran for 55 seconds. A precise correction identifies both the source and the draft:
In draft A, insert source 01:20–01:25 immediately after the demonstration at preview 00:40. Keep the complete qualification. Preserve the other three source selections and their order. Render a new preview so I can check the repaired join before adding captions or music.
In the intended draft B, source 01:22 appears at output 00:42: 40 seconds precede that selection, then two seconds pass inside it. Source time, preview time and final time can differ. Name the version and timebase in every follow-up; after another cut, recompute the affected positions.
Listen across both repaired joins and compare the statement with its source context. Then inspect captions, framing and the downloaded file. An inserted range or a successful render does not establish that the meaning is correct. Use the blank first-edit brief to record your requirements and actual observations.
