Edit your video with Gemini CLI
Connect Gemini CLI to Valmera and turn your recorded footage into a finished edit. Describe the cut, captions and framing, review a preview, then export the approved MP4—all from your agent conversation.
This walkthrough is for Google's terminal-based Gemini CLI. Start with a working Gemini CLI sign-in and a Valmera account. Your Google sign-in and your Valmera connection are separate. Uploading is free; editing requires a paid Valmera plan, and Gemini usage may be charged separately.
Check your Gemini access first. Google moved free individual and Google AI Pro/Ultra users to Antigravity CLI on June 18, 2026. Gemini CLI remains available through supported enterprise licenses and paid API access. See Google's transition announcement for your account route. The commands below are for Gemini CLI, not Antigravity CLI. You can also edit directly in Valmera Studio.
Connect the editor
Choose the manual connection below or the extension in the next section. For a manual connection, open a project you trust in Gemini CLI, then run this in its terminal:
Add Valmera
gemini mcp add --transport http valmera https://valmera.io/mcp/server
The command uses project scope by default. Add --scope user if you want it available across projects. Open Gemini CLI and authenticate:
Authenticate inside Gemini CLI
/mcp auth valmera
Complete Valmera sign-in in the browser with the account you intend to edit from. Check /mcp list, then ask “List my Valmera projects.” An empty list can mean the connection worked and the account has no projects yet. These commands follow Google's MCP setup documentation.
Prefer a settings.json entry?
Merge this entry into the existing mcpServers object in your project's .gemini/settings.json. Preserve other settings.
Gemini MCP configuration
{
"mcpServers": {
"valmera": {
"url": "https://valmera.io/mcp/server",
"type": "http"
}
}
}Install the Valmera extension instead
The official extension packages the connection with editing context and three workflows: footage editing, long-video shorts and website demos. Review its manifest and editing instructions, then run this in a terminal:
Install Valmera v1.0.1
gemini extensions install https://github.com/ABO3SKRALMASAOODI/valmera-mcp --ref v1.0.1
Review the installer's prompts. Restart Gemini CLI, check /extensions list and authenticate with /mcp auth valmera. The files are MIT-licensed; the hosted editing service has its own plan. See the workflow guide to choose the skill for your recording.
Already added Valmera manually? A same-name entry in settings.json takes precedence over the extension's server configuration. Inspect the existing entry before adding another connection. Google documents this in the extension reference.
Make a product walkthrough from your recording
Upload a screen recording in Valmera Studio, wait for its analysis, then choose that project in Gemini CLI. Start with a specific first pass:
First-edit prompt
Use Valmera on the project I select from my uploaded recordings. Make a 30-second product walkthrough for a 16:9 release announcement. Keep the successful demonstration and its result. Remove the false start and waiting time without changing the order of the steps. Keep interface labels legible and add accurate captions. Do not add music. Confirm the project, source recording and cost expectations before editing. Show me a preview, then export the version I approve as an MP4.
- Confirm the source. Check the account, project and recording. Keep the successful sequence and its result; name the false start you want removed.
- Set the scope. Specify the destination, duration, aspect ratio and caption language. Agree on the cost expectations before billable work. For multiple clips, name the number of deliveries and target length of each.
- Watch the preview. Check whether a viewer can follow the action, read the interface and hear the explanation. Use the preview's timestamps for revision notes and identify that version.
- Export the approved version. Confirm the project and edit version, follow the existing export job to completion, and retrieve the MP4 link. Open the exported file to check its ending, sound and captions.
For a podcast or interview, ask for self-contained stories with their source ranges before rendering clips. For a new website capture, define the permitted pages and actions first. The editing brief builder helps specify those requirements.
If you start with a local file, authorize the agent to transfer that chosen recording using the upload workflow. Mentioning a path alone does not make its bytes available to Valmera.
Resolve the step that stopped
| Symptom | Next step |
|---|---|
| Valmera is absent | Run gemini mcp list from the project terminal. Check which configuration scope you used, or restart after extension installation. |
| Cannot modify settings in an untrusted workspace | Review the project and use Gemini CLI's folder-trust flow for a workspace you trust. Then repeat the project-scoped add command. |
| Authentication fails or loops | Run /mcp auth valmera again. Complete the local browser callback and confirm the Valmera account. Google's OAuth flow requires browser access. |
| The connection works but the recording is missing | List projects and confirm the completed upload in the same account. Wait for source analysis before editing. |
| A render remains queued or running | Follow its existing job ID. Starting another render can duplicate work; an observation timeout is not a failed job. |
| A preview exists but there is no final MP4 | Request final export of the reviewed version, wait for completion and retrieve its delivery link. |
For account or tool-discovery problems, use the connection troubleshooting guide. Ask the assistant to discover its current Valmera tools when a workflow needs a capability it has not loaded.
Sources and verification
Gemini CLI 0.67.0 created the project-scoped HTTP configuration shown here. The v1.0.1 extension installed in an isolated test workspace, and its manifest, editing context and three skill files matched the published release. These checks cover installation and configuration; they did not run an authenticated editing job.
Connection syntax was checked against Google's documentation on November 6, 2026. The editing prompt above is a starting brief, not a claimed test result. The published cuts-and-crop example shows a prior Valmera export; it is not a Gemini CLI demonstration.
