CapCut vs Descript: AI Editing, Free Limits and Exports
Choose CapCut when its mobile workflow, visual controls and templates fit how you create. Choose Descript when its script-centered workspace, recording tools and Underlord fit the job. Both can edit spoken footage and automate parts of the work; the useful comparison is how you correct and deliver your actual project.
Valmera publishes this comparison and sells a competing editor. We checked current primary documentation and visible Descript pricing controls. We did not run a shared-footage speed or quality benchmark; the trial below is a proposed exercise.
Both products go beyond their familiar starting point

CapCut supports transcript editing. Its desktop guide describes editing through the transcript, searching words and removing fillers. For a spoken interview, this gives you a route beyond locating every cut by ear. Confirm the feature in the version you intend to use. CapCut transcript workflow.
Name the automation you mean. CapCut's Auto Cut help describes mobile/desktop availability and rollout limits, while its web auto-editor guide walks through Long video to shorts and subsequent corrections. Its Video Studio also uses prompts for video creation. Generating a new video, selecting clips and revising an existing recording are different tasks to test.
Descript includes conversational editing. Underlord accepts instructions and follow-up feedback within an editor that also has script and visual controls. A buyer can compare direct edits with assistant-led revisions instead of assuming the whole workflow must be operated manually.
Check the device before moving a project. CapCut lists mobile, desktop and web entry points, with feature differences. Descript's current desktop download page lists macOS 14 Sonoma or Windows 11 and newer; its installation guide also links the web editor. These desktop requirements should not be treated as browser requirements.

Source: Descript pricing. Annual equivalents are billed annually. Two Creator editors at the displayed rates total $70 month-to-month, or $576 per year before applicable taxes and extra usage. That arithmetic is a subscription example, not a quote for completing a video.
CapCut's pricing help directs users to their account because region, device and promotions affect the offer. Its membership update describes Standard alongside an upgraded Pro plan. Check the chosen offer's features, credit balance and renewal term; do not assume one Pro description covers every surface.
Record source-processing use, AI requests, corrections, any additional editor seats and the final output requirements separately. A 40-minute program does not by itself establish the charge for multiple camera or microphone files. Compare the usage displayed for the media you actually import.
Descript Free: two current pages disagree
The Underlord Free card advertises watermark-free 720p and 100 AI credits per month. The detailed pricing table excludes watermark-free video export and labels 100 AI credits as one-time. We observed both in the public browser pages on September 8, 2026.
Both list one media hour per month and 720p output. The branding and AI-credit renewal discrepancy remains unresolved here. Check a real download and the account's credit-reset information before planning recurring Free production. Check publishing and asset-license requirements separately from export branding.
For CapCut, its watermark help identifies possible template endings, embedded elements and assets that affect output. Inspect the final file and its export settings. A free entry point is useful only when it delivers what your project requires.
A video, subtitle file and editable project preserve different things

Descript's timeline-export guide lists Creator, Business and Enterprise access and a feature chart for Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Resolve. Titles, transitions and several effects do not transfer. Its caption row also differs by destination. Keep a reference render beside the imported timeline.
CapCut's caption-export help documents SRT/TXT export settings and distinguishes recognized captions from manually added text. Test the intended platform and caption source. Burned-in words are not a substitute for a requested subtitle file.
For client footage, use each vendor's own references: CapCut Trust Center, its ownership explanation and terms, plus Descript security and data-use details. Review the selected features, project sharing and asset licenses. A general security claim does not settle a particular client's requirements.
Compare one interview, three clips and a correction

- 3Make a specific correctionRestore one clipped sentence ending and fix one name in the captions. With an assistant, provide a follow-up note; with direct controls, make the equivalent change. Record correction time and any added usage.
- 4Check episode and clip contextReview the long edit and all three clips. Check that each excerpt still makes sense, the right speaker remains framed and titles or music do not obscure the message. Record defects separately from waiting time.
- 5Export the real deliverablesDownload and play the files, and test separate subtitles or an editable package if required. Compare the total editing, correction and delivery effort alongside the actual charge and retained project access.
Use the existing blank switching brief to record the source, required outputs and observed results. It contains no completed benchmark measurements. Keep timing and cost observations separate from subjective preferences about the interface.
If the first choice produces an acceptable clip but makes corrections difficult, include that repair work in your decision. If a tool handles the edit well but cannot supply the required project package, that delivery requirement may decide the purchase.
Where Valmera fits
Valmera is another candidate for editing uploaded footage through conversation. Give a brief, inspect the versioned timeline and preview, then request corrections. The work can include supported cuts, captions, framing, text and audio changes; review is still necessary.
Final export happens in Studio as an MP4. Valmera does not import native CapCut or Descript projects and does not provide editable XML or Studio SRT/VTT interchange.
